Mr. OKEY OBI

Director, Legal and Compliance with Nigeria Football Federation.

Mr. Okey Obi is presently Director, Legal and Compliance with Nigeria Football Federation. He is known for being a meticulous, astute and hard working person being driven by a desire to excel in any challenging circumstances. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Law from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He was 3rd best student in his class of 2014 New Managers’ Programme of Witts Business School, Johannesburg, South Africa. He holds a Masters’ degree in Alternative Dispute Resolution and presently about to round up his Ph.D in International Commercial Arbitration.
He was called to the Nigerian Bar in February 1998. He had previously worked for Ezeiblo Umeadi (SAN) & Co. and also Ikwueto (SAN) Law Firm, before joining the Nigeria Football Federation in 2000 then known as Nigeria Football Association. He has attended several courses, seminars, workshops and sundry programmes on arbitration, sports administration, football-specific management Programmes both in Nigeria and several countries of the world.
Mr. Obi has been involved in several civil and commercial litigations, especially in cases where the Nigeria Football Federation is a party. He has acted as legal representative of his employers in high profile legal proceedings at Federation of International Football Association [FIFA] and the Court of Arbitration for Sports [CAS], Lausanne [Switzerland].
He was for about eight [8] years, an Arbitrator of the CAS. While on the CAS list of Arbitrators, he acted as Arbitrator in several proceedings. He acted as one of the Counsel in a multi-million dollar dispute over football media rights. He has acted as Legal Representative of several Nigerian players, clubs and officials in several football and Sports related arbitrations.
Okey is well known for his work, especially in the area of sports administration and management, football and sports related dispute resolution. Driven by the desire to excel in diverse areas, he has by dint of hard work become a CAF Safety & Security Officer, a CAF Safety & Security Trainer and FIFA Safety & Security Officer. He is an International Panel Member, Sport Resolutions, a UK based alternative dispute resolution body.
He is your consummate and astute expert in Sports Law. Okey, a dedicated, committed and practicing Catholic and is also a member of the Ancient and Noble Order of Knight of St. John International.
